🌟 Our Story –  Memory of Daniel's Birthday 25thDecember ⭐️

Daniel was my first born, a baby who taught me how to become a mum. Little did I know at the time, he would teach me so much more. Like all mothers, I faced challenges, but in Daniel’s case his illness brought pain, fear, and uncertainties that reached depths I never knew existed. Life itself took on a whole new meaning for both of us, and while the challenges were immense, they made our relationship truly special. His strength was extraordinary, and it gave me the determination to keep going no matter what life threw at us.

Daniel’s birthday was on Christmas Day, a time already filled with joy and celebration. For us, it made his life feel even more precious and magical. Every Christmas was not just a holiday, but a chance to celebrate Daniel himself — a gift to our family and to everyone who knew him. Remembering is Birthday Christmas Day makes this fundraiser especially meaningful, as we honor the light brought into our lives 

When Daniel was at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, the care and compassion we received were beyond words. The staff, teachers, and volunteers gave their time and patience so generously. The PACT charity (Parents’ Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia) was incredible — supporting families like ours through the hardest times, offering comfort, practical help, and kindness that made a huge difference. The hospital teachers were also brilliant, spending hours with Daniel on his artwork, helping him find joy and expression even during treatment. Those moments of creativity gave him comfort and strength, and they are memories I will never forget.

Daniel’s talent was clear from an early age. He loved to draw and paint, and when he was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 14, it didn’t change who he was. Despite undergoing extensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy, he continued to set himself goals and produced beautiful pieces of art that I cherish today. He was also very creative with music, playing the saxophone, which brought him so much enjoyment.

Throughout his life, Daniel was driven by his creative spirit. Art gave him a way to escape from the reality of illness, even if only for a short time. As his mum, seeing him find comfort and joy in those moments was a blessing. It taught me the importance of creative expression and how precious time together really is. These experiences helped me to recognise that life is about being present, sharing moments, and finding joy in creativity.

Daniel left me with a beautiful legacy of paintings and memories that testify to his love for life. He inspired me to see how vital creativity and togetherness are for wellbeing. Our fundraising run/walk team is a way to honour his memory, celebrate his life, and continue sharing the importance of those precious moments. By joining our team, you’ll not only be helping us keep Daniel’s spirit alive, but also supporting the incredible work of Sheffield Children’s Hospital and PACT, who continue to make such a difference for children and families facing the toughest battles.
